Business’s frustration at months of roadworks on its doorstep

A BUSINESS that relies on customer visits has seen the road outside dug up for nine weeks with no word on when the disruption will be over.

Gas company SGN had to get to work outside Solent Motor Homes in Upton Road, Poole, to deal with a leak in November.

The motor home dealership has been contending with roadworks ever since and at one point last week, it had to be evacuated.

General manager Andrew Mathis said: “They ‘ve had to dig up both sides of the road by our entrance so we’re cut off at the moment. We can’t get pedestrians in, let alone vehicles.”

SGN was called to investigate a smell of gas around the site last November.

“The whole gas main that runs from Calshot to Dorchester is over 90 years old and it’s a steel main that’s rusted out,” said Mr Mathis.
