The city Zoning Hearing Board recently granted special exceptions that will enable a pair of businesses that specialize in hair to move into single-household residential zones in Altoona — one in Garden Heights and one in Fairview.
Kelly Krieger plans to relocate her Kelly Kreations salon from Hollidaysburg to the former Garden Heights United Methodist Church building on Bellview Street, where the board in 2016 granted a special exception for a preschool despite neighborhood opposition.
Ayanna Jenkins hopes to start her Mane Label Hair Extension business in the former Sipes TV repair shop on the 900 block of 22nd Avenue.
The former church building has a parking lot with handicap access and is “in no way” residential, according to Krieger.
There is a commercial plaza across the alley, she told the board.
She intends to operate from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m….
